Emergence

Many native cultures speak of how we each have two birthdays:

The first birthday is the day we are born. The second happens later in life, and not everyone chooses this one.

It is the day when the soul births itself, a more authentic self. This second birth is known in humans as transformation -- in animals, known as metamorphosis. The transformational process has been written about for eons and is referred to in many religions. Often there is a dark night, a period where what currently is no longer works. Soon through this dark night, what is current becomes the past. That past being the eggshell which harboured your rebirth.

Much like the darkness a young chick experiences inside its egg, through this dark void the chick grows and begins its desire to emerge itself anew. Ever so faintly the chick slowly starts to peck on the egg from the inside out. This pecking process build strength to the muscles of the chick… As the pecking continues, its muscles get stronger, and stronger, until it is finally strong enough. The chick’s strengthened muscles allow it to break through the shell -- a crack of light emerges. The new world appears and a new chick emerges. Thankfully through the pecking process the bird was able to fully develop its neck muscles.

It was the process of pecking at the egg that enabled the bird to build his muscles so it could hold its head upright. Now just think if that egg was cracked from the outside, how life would have emerged prematurely and the poor chick wouldn’t have been able to hold its head upright. Unable to feed itself or move properly. Perhaps it would go its whole life having never developed the strength it needed.

In relation to ourselves a corollary sentiment emerges: Trust the process.

You are emerging you.
Pecking at it, pecking at it,
from the inside out.
If you fall down, if you relapse,
know that this only making you stronger.

It is through the process that you are developing the muscles to hold yourself upright.
